Apuntes – El Verbo Gustar

 

The verb gustar is used to tell what someone likes to do. It doesn’t work like other verbs…

It is always followed by the infinitive of a verb!! 

I like…

Me gusta…

We like…

Nos gusta…

You (fam.) like…

Te gusta…

You all (fam. – Spain) like

Os gusta…

He likes…

Le gusta

They (masc./mixed) like…

Les gusta…

She likes…

They (feminine) like…

You (form.) like…

You all (fam./form.) like…

 

To be more specific or to emphasize the person, use:

 

a +

name or

+ me / te / le / nos / os / les gusta

noun or

pronoun

 

For example:    A Marta le gusta comer chicharrones.

                        Al perro le gusta caminar en el parque.

                        A nosotros nos gusta leer.

 

**You don’t use “a yo” or “a tú.” Instead, you use “a mí” and “a ti.”For everything else, use the subject pronoun. (A ella, a él, a usted, etc.)
