Apuntes – Expressing Possession – Adjetivos Posesivos

*      Possessive adjectives:

*      tell you who owns something

*      describe a relationship between people or things

*      Possessive adjectives are ADJECTIVES. This means that they agree in gender and number with the nouns they describe.

*      Example:

*      Red shirt – red and shirt agree

*      My shoes – my and shoes agree

*      Her dad – her and dad agree

*      New student – new and student agree

*      Their teacher – their and teacher agree

*      Your books – your and books agree

*      Because they agree in gender and number, you have masculine singular, feminine singular, masculine plural, and feminine plural possessive adjectives.

       Él es mi hermano. (He is my brother.)                    Ellos son mis hermanos. (They are my brothers.)

       Él es nuestra hermana. (He is our sister.)                                 Ellos son nuestras hermanas. (They are our sisters.)

*      If it gets too confusing to use su or sus, you can go back to using possession with de.

*      Es el hermano de Francisco. =   Es su hermano.

*      Son los hermanos de Francisco.   =   Son sus hermanos.

24-Point Star: IT WILL REALLY HELP IF YOU THINK ABOUT THESE AS ADJECTIVES!!! THEY HAVE TO AGREE IN GENDER AND NUMBER WITH WHAT THEY DESCRIBE!!

I’m changing the directions…you will write 2 sentences. Use possession with de for the first sentence and possessive adjectives in the second sentence.

Modelo
