Preterite vs. Imperfect

Uses of:

El Imperfecto

bulletTo tell about past actions that happened and are complete
bulletTo give a sequence of actions in the past
bulletTo tell about habitual actions in the past
bulletTo give background details such as time, location, weather, mood, age, and physical and mental descriptions.
bulletWhen two or more actions are taking place simultaneously in the past.

Use the preterite and the imperfect in the same sentence when an action (preterite) interrupts another action that is taking place in the past (imperfect.)
