Saber vs. Conocer

*Both of these verbs have irregular "yo" forms and they both mean "to know."

*They are used differently.

SABER

Uses:

bullet

to know facts

bullet

to know information

bullet

to know how to do something (use a form of saber + infinitive)

yo nosotros sabemos
sabes vosotros sabéis
él, ella, Ud. sabe ellos, ellas, Uds. saben

CONOCER

Uses:

bullet

to know people (to be acquainted with)

bullet

to know places (to say you've been there...)

yo conozco nosotros conocemos
conoces vosotros conocéis
él, ella, Ud. conoce ellos, ellas, Uds. conocen

**When using a form of conocer to say that you know a person, follow the form of conocer with "a." This is called the personal "a."
